Enrichment Offerings / Ofertas de Enriquecimiento
Athletics with Coach BritThrough a combination of traditional (basketball, soccer and volleyball) and non-traditional (Medic Dodgeball, Indoor Marco Polo and Ultimate Football) games, students will strengthen peer-to-peer communication and collaboration while competing in fun, new games and building new friendships! To ensure fair play and good sportsmanship, teams will always be balanced based on experience, age and gender. Our first priority is fair and equal play for young athletes and as such, participants will get equal playing time regardless of skill level. |

Design, Then Code: Mobile App DesignThis class offers students a chance to learn the basics of coding and basic program design. By the end of the summer, students will have developed a project that combines their interest with the growing technology world. |

Digital Media & PhotographyIn this course, students will learn both technical and artistic fundamentals of digital photography. Topics include manipulating focus, exposure and lighting and principles of composition. Students will have many opportunities for applying their learning through fun and creative activities. They will also learn how to use photo editing techniques to enhance their work. Students will conclude the course with a creative project that demonstrates their growth and personal interests. Cameras will be provided. |

THE MC: Theory of Hip Hop Evolution, Music, Culture with Hip Hop 4 ChangeThis is a course that provides intensive instruction on all elements of Hip Hop; DJ'ing, Emceeing, Graffiti Art, Breakdancing, and the history and cultural importance of the movement. |

Fashion Design with Ms. AndreaThis course will cover the fundamentals of fashion design, costuming, and production. Fashion Design Arts students are responsible for designing two to five pieces, a sketch book, vision board, and one final design that is collaborated with another classmate. Classes will include lessons in clothing construction, draping, & fashion illustration. Made possible through a partnership with The People’s Conservatory. |

Food RevolutionAre you ready to experience food in a way that you never have before? If so, Food Revolution is the perfect class for you! This summer, students will prepare a variety of delicious recipes from scratch, use our compost scraps to dye fabric and paper, do blindfolded taste tests and comparisons, “top chef” style Cook Offs, and learn incredible facts about how our food and diet affect our health, happiness, and success. |

Free SwimParticipants have the option of recreational free swim if qualified for swim level 3 and above. Each swimmer will be assessed to determine free-swim section eligibility (shallow, mid, and deep water). Please note Free Swim does not include swim lessons. |

Hip-Hop DanceBeginning & Intermediate Available So you think you can dance? Want to learn how to dance? Regardless of your talent and experience, this class is for you! A unique fusion of West-African funk, Break Dance and Contemporary; Hip-Hop dance is one of the most popular dance styles among kids of all ages. In this energetic, movement-based class, middle-school students will learn the fundamentals of hip-hop dance. Participants will contribute their ideas and favorite summer songs to choreograph dynamic dance routines. |

Intro to DrawingIn this class we will explore a variety of materials such as pencil, charcoal, and colored pencils, in order to create realistic works of art. Come ready to observe carefully, express yourself, and explore new ways of working (no prerequisite needed). |

Pangea FilmmakingThis course explores the elements of hip hop through filmmaking. Dive into the evolution of graffiti, breakdancing, emceeing, and djing creatively through producing and starring in their own films inspired by the four elements. Made possible through a partnership with The People’s Conservatory. |

Racquet Club: Tennis 101Racquet Club is an outdoor camp housed on the Head-Royce tennis courts. Members of the Racquet Club are energetic middle-schoolers interested in learning the fundamentals of tennis. Each day, participants will focus on mastering specific techniques while enjoying competitive game play. This skill-building includes focus on footwork, improving forehand power, hitting sharper volleys, serving and improved tennis strokes. |

Advanced DJ'ing and Beat-Making with Hip-Hop 4 ChangePrevious experience recommended A performance based DJ'ing and Beat-Making class, designed to give participants the hands on history, education and fundamentals on how Hip Hop music is arranged, produced, recorded and released. Participants will develop skills rooted in the art of Hip Hop DJing and evolving into Digital Music Production, Sound Recording and Engineering. Participants will also be introduced to basic sound signal flow concepts and recording techniques, as well as basic DIY Studio setup to be able to Record, Edit, Mix and release their own material. Participants will explore how Hip Hop was influenced by older forms of music and now has influenced and continues to influence other contemporary musical genres throughout the world. |

Soul Sister WisdomThis class provides a space for girls to join together in community and learn about the wisdom of our women ancestors from a range of cultures while also sharing their own wisdom acquired from women in their families and/or communities. The purpose of this class is to keep the “Soul Sister Wisdom” flowing as it did and still does in communities where women of all ages gather regularly to pass on stories, knowledge, recipes, remedies, advice, etc. (Only offered during after care). |

TheatreOver the course of 4 weeks, our 6-9th graders will work on the fundamentals of acting and be introduced to age-appropriate scene work. This course will introduce students to: Scenes-study - how to learn lines, perform a scene, and develop a character; Building public speaking skills; Exploring techniques to tap into one's emotions; Building self-confidence; Learning the ropes to perform onstage with confidence. |
